Those waiting at a stoplight at Northeast 99th and Sandy Boulevard probably don't pay much mind to the little cemetery wedged between a gas station and a local bar, but some of the Parkrose neighborhood's earliest residents are buried there.
Columbia Pioneer Cemetery was founded back in 1877 and a walk on its grounds gives you a glimpse into the neighborhood's rich past.
With Parkrose celebrating its centennial this year, we thought we'd stop by to take a look at some of the old grave markers that date all the way back to the late 1800s.
For those who grew up in Parkrose and might be wondering if some long lost relatives are buried there, you can find out through Metro. They maintain burial records for the cemetery and you can search online to see if it's the final resting place for someone in your family tree.
