Can't stop texting, even at a movie theater? In this case, it's quite alright | Arts & Culture
Title (Max 100 Charaters)
PORTLAND, Ore. - Everyone knows you're supposed to put your cell phones away when you're watching a movie at a theater but in this case folks are actually being encouraged to leave them on and even spend the entire time texting.
Sounds rude, right? Not when it comes to Hecklevision.
This is where the audience is encouraged to text commentary while a movie is playing and the texts pop up at the bottom of the screen in real time. So instead of rolling your eyes at bad acting, wondering who that actor is who looks very familiar or whispering to your friend or date sitting next to you, you can text your comments for all to see.
If this sounds like fun, Hecklevision is coming to the historic Hollywood Theatre at Northeast 41st and Sandy Boulevard.
On Friday, Jan. 20, the theater will be showing the 1984 classic Red Dawn. Some of the stars include the late Patrick Swayze, Lea Thompson (of Back to the Future fame), Jennifer Grey (of Dirty Dancing fame), C. Thomas Howell (remember him in The Outsiders?) and a rather young Charlie Sheen (way before his "WINNING" mantra became a catchphrase). Harry Dean Stanton, who played dad to Molly Ringwald's character in Pretty in Pink, is in there as well.
In case you've forgotten what the movie is all about, a group of high school students put up a serious fight when the United States is invaded by the Soviet Union and its Latin American allies.
The show starts at 7:30 p.m. and admission is $7 (or $4 for Hollywood Theatre members).
