PORTLAND, Ore. - The recent rash of apparent gang-related shootings continued unabated Friday morning in Portland after a man was shot in the face outside a north Portland bar.

Witnesses said they heard about 5 shots ring out around 1 a.m. outside the Interstate Bar and Grill on North Skidmore Street.

Police said the 39-year-old shooting victim was shot in the face but managed to drive himself to a hospital. He is in stable condition. No other injuries were reported.

It is the ninth shooting incident in Portland in the last four days. The shootings have been spread across Portland's East Side neighborhoods. so far, no fatalities have been reported but there have been several injuries.

Portland Police Sergeant Charlie Fender told KATU News that the recent spate of shootings is the unlike anything he's seen in his career in Portland.

"That's another 8 to 11 events where there were shots fired down the streets of Portland," Fender said. "To our knowledge nothing or nobody else was hit but the potential there is catastrophic as to what could have happened."

Police said they believe the shootings are gang related and the Gang Violence Response Team is investigating.

Police investigating the shooting have not arrested any shooting suspects or released any suspect information.

Police have noted in past reports that both potential witnesses and shooting victims have been uncooperative in their investigations.
